Note on data protection
Personal data is collected when you use our information services. This is necessary for technical reasons in order to guarantee you all of our website’s functionalities and the security of our site (legal basis is Art. 6 (1) sentence 1 lit. e GDPR).
The purpose of processing is to fulfil the tasks assigned to the North Rhine-Westphalia Police by law. The legal basis for the processing of personal data is derived from Section 3 (1) of the Data Protection Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (DSG NRW) in conjunction with Article 6 (1) (e) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), without prejudice to more specific legal provisions. Accordingly, the processing of personal data is authorised if it is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the Controller. If you have consented to processing, the data processing is based on Article 6 (1)(a) GDPR.

Each time the website’s content is accessed, data is temporarily stored there in so-called protocol or log files, which may allow identification. The following data is collected each time the website is accessed:
- Date and time of access,
- name of the internet service called up, the resource called up and the action used,
- the query made by the client,
- the amount of data transferred,
- a notification as to whether the request was successful,
- the IP address and port of the accessing computer, and
- client information (browser, operating system).
This data from the log files is used to defend against and analyse attacks on the portal and is stored for up to 48 hours directly for, and only accessible to, administrators. After that, it is only available indirectly via the reconstruction of backup tapes and is permanently deleted after six weeks.
Citizen service, e-mail and consent
We offer you various access options to make contact with the NRW Police – via contact forms or by using email addresses. When you contact us by email or via a contact form, the data you provide must be stored so that we can respond to your request.
Should you use these methods of contacting us, entering your personal data is expressly voluntary and – if you are over 16 years of age – the storage and processing of your personal data associated with your entry is with your consent (legal basis is Art. 6 (1) sentence 1 lit. a in conjunction with Art. 8 (1) GDPR). Persons under the age of 16 should not transmit any personal data to us without the consent of their parents or legal guardians (legal basis is Art. 8 (1) GDPR). We do not request personal data from children or young people. We do not knowingly collect such data.
If you contact us directly via email, we ask you to note your consent in your email.
For enquiries via email or contact form, the following data may be stored:

- surname,
- first name,
- email address,
- street,
- house number,
- postcode,
- town,
- telephone number,
- subject,
- your message,
- timestamp,
- user,
- IP address.
We only use the personal data you enter for the purpose you have requested and only within the state government or the authorities, departments and institutions commissioned with the respective service.
We delete personal data that we receive by email or contact form as soon as storage is no longer required for the purpose being pursued by you or in connection with the administrative processes triggered by it and the applicable retention obligations (Annex to the File Regulations for the Division of the Ministry of the Interior and Municipal Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (AktO); Circular of the Ministry of the Interior and Municipal Affairs - 51 - 17.05 - dated 25 July 2016).
Use of cookies
The website uses what are referred to as “cookies”. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer and saved by your browser. They are used to make our website more user-friendly and effective for you.

Your IP address is anonymised before it is saved so that it can no longer be traced back to you. The information obtained will not be passed on to third parties.

In this case, what is called an opt-out cookie is stored in your browser that prevents your usage data being stored. Sharing of personal data
Data that has been logged when accessing the NRW Police’s Online Police Station or collected for a special service will only be passed on to third parties outside the state government
- if we are obliged to do so by law or by order of a court or public prosecutor or
- if disclosure is necessary for legal or criminal prosecution in the event of attacks on the state government’s internet infrastructure.
However, we would like to expressly point out at this point that the use of social media that can be accessed via this website – with prior consent – may also involve the transmission of personal data.
